Dentures

If you have a few or all of your teeth missing, one solution is to have dental dentures. A denture is an artificial substitute for natural tooth and the tissue surrounding it. It is made from a hard-wearing material that mimics the look of teeth and gums to give you mouth a natural appearance. Your denture will be made to fit snugly on your gums and you will be able to remove it for cleaning.

Benefits of Dentures

The main benefit of having a new set of fully functioning teeth with dentures is that it will look and feel so much better, giving you a boost in confidence.

Dentures prevent sagging skin as well. Without teeth in the jaw, the cheeks do not have the right amount of support to combat the force of gravity. The cheeks may sink downwards and inwards, and cause wrinkles that may make you appear older than you are.

Dentures, fortunately, may help reverse this process.

Partial and Full Dentures

There are currently different types of dentures, ranging from partial ones designed to replace only a few missing teeth, to complete dentures that replace all your teeth. Any of these falls under the general category of dentures.

Taking Care of Dentures and Natural Teeth

When you wear a denture for the first time it may get some getting used to when speaking or eating and chewing. It is important that you take extra care in your hygiene regime so that you can avoid bad breath, tooth decay and gum disease. The hygienist will be able to show you how to best take care of your denture and gums and will tell you about specialised brushes you can use to do this.
